There are 15 wildfires of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.


Deep Creek Complex (EWF-035, WCU-001, WCU-002)

  • Wildfires EWF-035, WCU-001 and WCU-002 are part of the Deep Creek Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfires WCU-001 and WCU-002 are in the area of Evansburg, Entwistle, Wildwood, Lobstick and Hansonville. They are classified as out of control 7,281 hectares (WCU001) and 2,401 hectares (WCU002).
  • Wildfire EWF-035 is located 3 km southeast of Shining Bank and is classified as out of control at 5,952 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

 Grizzly Complex (SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064)

  • Wildfires SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064 are part of the Grizzly Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-057 is located on the southwest side of Grizzly Ridge Wildland Provincial Park and classified as out of control at 8,136 hectares. There are 28 firefighters, heavy equipment, and nine helicopters working on the wildfire.
  • Wildfire SWF-063 is located south of High Prairie near the East Prairie Metis Settlement. It is out of control at 69,074 ha. 
  • Wildfire SWF-064 is located over 40 km northwest of Swan Hills, is classified as out of control and has burned approximately 22,220 hectares. 
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

Kimiwan Complex (PWF-038, SWF-068)

  • Wildfires PWF-038 and SWF-068 are part of the Kimiwan Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-068 is located by the Peavine Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at 65,000 hectares.
  • PWF-038 is located approximately 17 km northeast of Three Creeks and 20 km southwest of Simon Lake. It is classified as out of control at approximately 6,207 hectares. 
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

 Nipisi Complex (SWF-059, SWF-060)

  • Wildfires SWF-059 and SWF-060 are part of the Nipisi Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-060 is located on the east side of Utikuma Lake and is classified as out of control at 16,680 hectares.
  • Wildfire SWF-059 is located over 24 km northeast of the Whitefish Lake First Nation. It is classified as out of control at approximately 1,036 hectares. 
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

Pembina Wildfire Complex (EWF-031, RWF-034, RWF-040)

  • Wildfires EWF-031, RWF-034 and RWF-040 are part of the Pembina Wildfire Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire EWF-031 is located 25 km west of Lodgepole, 20 km northwest of Brazeau Dam and 14 km southeast of Edson. It is still classified as out of control at 82,666 hectares.
  • Wildfire RWF-034 is located near the O’Chiese Reserve. It is classified as out of control at 67,043 hectares.
  • Wildfire RWF-040 is located 6 km northeast of the Forestry Trunk Road and Brown Creek Provincial Recreational Area. It is classified as out of control at 2,200 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

Sturgeon Lake Complex (GWF-017, GWF-023)

  • Wildfires GWF-017 and GWF-023 are part of the Sturgeon Lake Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire GWF-017 is located 3 km southeast of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. It is classified as out of control at 3,765 hectares.
  • Wildfire GWF-023 is located approximately 10 km northeast of Valleyview. It is classifies as out of control at 1,189 hectares. 
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

GCU-003

  • This wildfire is located southwest of Grande Prairie. It is currently classified as out of control at 1,581 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfires is supporting the County of Grande Prairie department with firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment.

GWF-018

  • This wildfire is located on both sides of the Peace River and is impacting Highway 64. It is classified as out of control at 29,000 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

GWF-019

  • This wildfire is located 21 km west of Highway 40 and 50 km south of Grande Prairie. It is classified as out of control at 11,750 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

GWF-027

  • This wildfire is located 27 km southwest of Little Smoky. It is currently classified as out of control at 7,850 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

HWF-030

  • This wildfire is located in the community of Fox Lake. It is classified as out of control at 32,914 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

HWF-036

  • This wildfire is located near the Rainbow Lake community. It is classified as out of control at 85,662 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

 RCU-005

  • Wildfire RCU-005 is 2 km from the south edge of Drayton Valley. It is classified as out of control at 4,959 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfires is supporting the Brazeau County fire department with firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment.

SWF-081

  • This wildfire is located 6 km north of Chipewyan Lakes and is classified as out of control, at 5,700 hectares. 
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

WWF-023

  • This wildfire is located in the Fox Creek area. It is classified as out of control at 46,915 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

Deep Creek Complex (EWF-035, WCU-001, WCU-002)

  • Wildfires EWF-035, WCU-001 and WCU-002 are part of the Deep Creek Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfires WCU-001 and WCU-002 are in the area of Evansburg, Entwistle, Wildwood, Lobstick and Hansonville. They are classified as out of control 7,281 hectares (WCU001) and 2,401 hectares (WCU002).
  • Wildfire EWF-035 is located 3 km southeast of Shining Bank and is classified as out of control at 5,332 hectares.
  • There are 34 firefighters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

 Grizzly Complex (SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064)

  • Wildfires SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064 are part of the Grizzly Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-057 is located on the southwest side of Grizzly Ridge Wildland Provincial Park and classified as out of control at 8,136 hectares. There are 28 firefighters, heavy equipment, and nine helicopters working on the wildfire.
  • Wildfire SWF-063 is located south of High Prairie near the East Prairie Metis Settlement. It is out of control at 69,074 ha. There are 40 firefighters, heavy equipment, and six helicopters working on the wildfire.
  • Wildfire SWF-064 is located over 40 km northwest of Swan Hills, is classified as out of control and has burned approximately 22,220 hectares. 

Kimiwan Complex (PWF-038, SWF-068)

  • Wildfires PWF-038 and SWF-068 are part of the Kimiwan Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-068 is located by the Peavine Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at 38,716 hectares.
  • PWF-038 is located approximately 17 km northeast of Three Creeks and 20 km southwest of Simon Lake. It is classified as out of control at approximately 6,207 hectares. 
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with nine helicopters, heavy equipment and 45 firefighters.

 Nipisi Complex (SWF-059, SWF-060)

  • Wildfires SWF-059 and SWF-060 are part of the Nipisi Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-060 is located on the east side of Utikuma Lake and is classified as out of control at 16,680 hectares.
  • Wildfire SWF-059 is located over 24 km northeast of the Whitefish Lake First Nation. It is classified as out of control and has burned approximately 1,036 hectares. 
  • Alberta Wildfire has 59 firefighters, heavy equipment and 10 helicopters responding to this wildfire.

Pembina Wildfire Complex (EWF-031, EWF-039, RWF-034, RWF-040)

  • Wildfires EWF-031, EWF-039, RWF-034 and RWF-040 are part of the Pembina Wildfire Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire EWF-031 is located 25 km west of Lodgepole, 20 km northwest of Brazeau Dam and 14 km southeast of Edson. It is still classified as out of control at 82,666 hectares.
  • Wildfire RWF-034 is located near the O’Chiese Reserve. It is classified as out of control at 67,043 hectares.
  • Wildfire RWF-040 is located 6 km northeast pf the Forestry Truck Road and Brown Creek Provincial Recreational Area. It is classified as out of control at 2,200 hectares.
  • There are 121 firefighters, heavy equipment, and 11 helicopters assigned to the complex.

Sturgeon Lake Complex (GWF-017, GWF-023)

  • Wildfires GWF-017 and GWF-023 are part of the Sturgeon Lake Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire GWF-017 is located 3 km southeast of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. It is classified as out of control at 3,765 hectares.
  • Wildfire GWF-023 is located approximately 10 km northeast of Valleyview. It is classifies as out of control at 1, 189 hectares. 
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with 20 firefighters, seven helicopters and heavy equipment.

GCU-003

  • This wildfire is located southwest of Grande Prairie. It is currently classified as out of control at 1,581 hectares.
  • The County of Grande Prairie department is working alongside Alberta Wildfire firefighters, heavy equipment operators and aircraft on this wildfire.

HWF-030

  • This wildfire is located in the community of Fox Lake. It is classified as out of control at 32,914 hectares.
  • There are 93 firefighters, 10 helicopters and heavy equipment responding to this wildfire.

HWF-036

  • This wildfire is located near the Rainbow Lake community. It is classified as out of control at 78,400 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment.

 RCU-005

  • Wildfire RCU-005 is 2 km from the south edge of Drayton Valley. It is classified as out of control at 4,959 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire has sent firefighters and helicopters to assist Brazeau County with this wildfire.

WWF-023

  • This wildfire is located in the Fox Creek area. It is classified as out of control at 30,654 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with 13 firefighters, heavy equipment and eight helicopters conducting bucketing operations.

  • Wildfire SWF-068 is located by the Peavine Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at 38,716 hectares.

  • This wildfire is located southwest of Grande Prairie. It is currently classified as out of control at 1,581 hectares.

  • This wildfire is located in the community of Fox Lake. It is classified as out of control at 24,634 hectares.

Deep Creek Complex (EWF-035, WCU-001, WCU-002)

  • Wildfires EWF-035, WCU-001 and WCU-002 are part of the Deep Creek Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfires WCU-001 and WCU-002 are in the area of Evansburg, Entwistle, Wildwood, Lobstick and Hansonville. They are classified as out of control 7,254 hectares (WCU001) and 2,400 hectares (WCU002).
  • Wildfire EWF-035 is located 3 km southeast of Shining Bank and is classified as out of control at 5,332 hectares.
  • There are 68 firefighters, heavy equipment and nine helicopters working on this complex.

 Grizzly Complex (SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064)

  • Wildfires SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064 are part of the Grizzly Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-057 is located on the southwest side of Grizzly Ridge Wildland Provincial Park and classified as out of control at 8,136 hectares. There are ten firefighters, three heavy equipment groups and eight helicopters working on the wildfire.
  • Wildfire SWF-063 is located near the East Prairie Metis Settlement. It is out of control at 69,074 ha. There are 22 firefighters, four heavy equipment groups and five helicopters working on the wildfire.

Kimiwan Complex (PWF-038, SWF-068)

  • Wildfires PWF-038 and SWF-068 are part of the Kimiwan Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-068 is located by the Peavine Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at 38,716 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with three helicopters, a heavy equipment group and 20 firefighters.

 Nipisi Complex (SWF-059, SWF-060)

  • Wildfires SWF-059 and SWF-060 are part of the Nipisi Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-060 is located on the east side of Utikuma Lake and is classified as out of control at 16,880 hectares.

Deep Creek Complex (EWF-035, WCU-001, WCU-002)

  • Wildfires EWF-035, WCU-001 and WCU-002 are part of the Deep Creek Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfires WCU-001 and WCU-002 are in the area of Evansburg, Entwistle, Wildwood, Lobstick and Hansonville. They are classified as out of control at 7,254 hectares (WCU001) and 2,400 hectares (WCU002).
  • Wildfire EWF-035 is located 3 km southeast of Shining Bank and is classified as out of control at 5,027 hectares.
  • There are 69 firefighters working alongside 14 pieces of heavy equipment on the complex. Additionally, nine helicopters are performing bucketing operations on the wildfires near affected communities.

 Grizzly Complex (SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064)

  • Wildfires SWF-057, SWF-063, SWF-064 are part of the Grizzly Complex and will be reported together.
  • Wildfire SWF-057 is located on the southwest side of Grizzly Ridge Wildland Provincial Park and classified as out of control at 8,136 hectares. There are ten firefighters, three heavy equipment groups and seven helicopters working on the wildfire.
  • Wildfire SWF-063 is located near the East Prairie Metis Settlement. It is out of control at 69,074 ha. There are 22 firefighters, four heavy equipment groups and six helicopters working on the wildfire.

Kimiwan Complex (PWF-038, SWF-068) 

  • Wildfires PWF-038 and SWF-068 are part of the Kimiwan Complex and will be reported together.  
  • Wildfire SWF-068 is located by the Peavine Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at 23,706 hectares. 
  • Firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment are supporting this wildfire. Airtankers are available as required. 

 Nipisi Complex (SWF-059, SWF-060) 

  • Wildfires SWF-059 and SWF-060 are part of the Nipisi Complex and will be reported together.  
  • Wildfire SWF-060 is located on the east side of Utikuma Lake and is classified as out of control at 15,880 hectares. 
  • Firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment are supporting this wildfire. Airtankers are available as required. 
  • Firefighters extinguished wildfires SWF-061, SWF-062 and SWF-070 that were part of this complex.

  • Wildfires GWF-017 and GWF-023 are part of the Sturgeon Lake Complex and will be reported together. 
  • Wildfire GWF-017 is located 3 km southeast of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. It is classified as out of control at 3,765 hectares. 
  • Firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment supporting this fire. Airtankers are available as required.
  • Grand Cache, DeBolt and Valleyview Fire Departments are also engaged in operations.

GCU-003 

  • This wildfire is located southwest of Grande Prairie. It is currently classified as out of control at 1,500 hectares. 
  • There is an Incident Management Team, firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment supporting this fire. Airtankers are also available as required.
  • The County Fire department, heavy equipment, and structural protection unit is working alongside Alberta Wildfire firefighting crews on the wildfire. 

HWF-030 

  • This wildfire is located in the community of Fox Lake. It is classified as out of control at 16,400 hectares. 
  • There is an Incident Management Team, firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment supporting this fire. Airtankers are also available as required.

HWF-036 

  • This wildfire is located near the Rainbow Lake community. It is classified as out of control at 17,399 hectares.

EWF-031

  • Wildfire EWF-031 is located 14 km Southeast of Edson, Minnow Lake Provincial Recreation Area has been overrun by the wildfire. It is still classified as out of control at 77,920 hectares (ha).
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with heavy equipment and helicopters for use in bucketing operations. Heavy equipment continues to work on establishing guard along the north side of the fire, along with bucketing from heavy and medium helicopters.
  • This wildfire saw low fire behaviour yesterday due to favourable weather conditions with lower temperatures and high relative humidity, and similar conditions are expected today.

 Grizzly Complex (SWF-063)

  • This wildfire is located near the East Prairie Metis Settlement. It is out of control at 56,500 ha.
  • Fire is is seven km from High Prairie and the Town is on one hour notice to evacuate.
  • Firefighters, helicopters conducting bucketing operations and heavy equipment operators are working on this wildfire.

 WCU001 / WCU002  

  • These wildfires are in the area of Evansburg/ Entwistle/ Wildwood/ Hansonville. They are both classified as out of control at 9,898 hectares (WCU001) and 2,400 hectares (WCU002).
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding to these wildfires with 59 firefighters, 14 pieces of heavy equipment and eight helicopters.

HWF-030

  • This wildfire is located in the community of Fox Lake. It is classified as out of control at 16,400 hectares.

 SCX-002 (SWF-060)

  • This wildfire is in the Utikima Lake, Whitefish Lake and Gift Lake First Nation area and is classified as out of control at 15,880 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire has 32 wildland firefighters, heavy equipment and helicopters responding to this wildfire.

EWF-035

  • This wildfire is located near Shining Bank and is classified as out of control at 5,027 hectares.
  • EWF-035 is part of the Deep Creek Complex
  • 62 firefighters worked alongside 14 pieces of heavy equipment on the complex. Additionally, eight helicopters performed bucketing operations on the wildfires near affected communities.
  • Heavy equipment will be present on EWF-035 as they work to establish the best plan to create a fire boundary to prevent spread to rural properties. 
  • An Incident Management Team is responding to this wildfire.

SWF-057 – Big Lakes County – 35 km South of Swan River First Nation

  • This wildfire is located 35 km South of Swan River First Nation and classified as out of control at 8,136 hectares.
  • 57 firefighters, heavy equipment and helicopters are assigned to the wildfire

EWF-031

  • Wildfire EWF-031 is located 14 km Southeast of Edson, Minnow Lake Provincial Recreation Area has been overrun by the wildfire. It is still classified as out of control at 77,920 hectares (ha).
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with heavy equipment, four helicopters, and one ignition specialist with helicopter. Airtankers are available and two heavy helicopters for use in bucketing operations will arrive at the wildfire today. 

 Grizzly Complex (SWF-063)

  • This wildfire is located near the East Prairie Metis Settlement. It is  out of control at 56,500 ha.
  • Fire is is seven km from High Prairie and the Town is on one hour notice to evacuate.

 WCU001 / WCU002 – These wildfires will now be reported together 

  • This wildfire is the area of Evansburg/ Entwhistle/ Wildwood/ Hansonville. They are both classified as out of control at 8,586 hectares (WCU001) and 2,400 hectares (WCU002).
  • Alberta Wildfire has resources responding to this wildfire with 59 firefighters, 14 pieces of heavy equipment and nine helicopters.

  • This wildfire is located in the community of Fox Lake. It is classified as out of control at 16,390 hectares.
  • There is an Incident Management Team, 56 firefighters, heavy equipment and aircraft responding to this wildfire.

GWF-017

  • Wildfire GWF-017 is located 3 km Southeast of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. It is classified as out of control at 1,700 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire is providing responding with 32 wildland firefighters (including one firetack crew), aircraft and heavy equipment.

HWF-036

  • This wildfire is located near the Rainbow Lake Community. It is classified as out of control at 11,900 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire is responding with 44 firefighters, heavy equipment, and aircraft.

RWF-034

  • Wildfire RWF-034 is located near the O’Chiese Reserve. It is classified as out of control at 51,000 hectares.

 RCU-005

  • Wildfire RCU-005 is 2 km from the south edge of Drayton Valley. It is classified as out of control at 3,500 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire has sent wildfire fighters and helicopters to the wildfire. Airtankers will also be supporting the firefighting efforts today.

SWF-068

  • This wildfire is located by the Peavine Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at 23,700 hectares.

WWF-023

  • This wildfire is located in the Fox Creek Area. It is classified as out of control at 8,500 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire along with the local fire chief will be assessing the situation today

GCU-003

  • This wildfire is located Southwest of Grande Prairie. It is currently classified as out of control at 1,500 hectares.
  • The County Fire department is working alongside crews and aircraft on this wildfire.

 SCX-002 (SWF-060)

  • This wildfire is in the Utikima Lake, Whitefish Lake and Gift Lake First Nation area and is classified as out of control at 10,000 hectares.
  • Alberta Wildfire has 24 wildland firefighters, heavy equipment and aircraft responding to this wildfire.

EWF-035

  • This wildfire is located near Shining Bank and is classified as out of control at 5,027 hectares.
  • An Incident Management Team is responding to this wildfire.

SWF-057 – Big Lakes County – 35 km South of Swan River First Nation

  • This wildfire is located 35 km South of Swan River First Nation and classified as out of control at 6,200 hectares.
  • 29 firefighters, heavy equipment and helicopters are assigned to the wildfire
