There is one wildfire of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.
HWF030 - Amber River Fire
HWF030 is classified as out of control at approximately 3,350 hectares. This wildfire is located about 8.5 km southwest of Zama in the High Level Forest Area. Temperatures are expected to reach 20 degrees today, with a relative humidity of 35% with winds from the northeast at 15-20 km/h.
There are currently 133 firefighters with helicopters and heavy equipment groups responding to this wildfire as well as airtankers and an incident management team.
Good progress continues with the dozer guard, especially on the north side, with 45% of the fire now contained by this guard. Heavy equipment operators worked on the southwest portion of the fire last night to reinforce the retardant dropped earlier yesterday by airtankers. The work of fire crews on the southeast, east and northeast portion of the fire continues to hold — and crews are currently working to reinforce portions of the perimeter line.
Structural protection in key areas remains installed and ready to go, should it be required, and additional firefighters and other resources will continue to arrive today.
Last night, fire crews used night-vision helicopters to monitor fire behavior and support operations. Airtankers are available to help contain the spread of this wildfire today.
Mackenzie County has issued an evacuation notice for Zama, as this wildfire (HWF030) to the SW of Zama is continuing to advance toward Chateh Road and the Zama Access Road. For more information, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/N8v1mnqaSA55Qo1j/ or https://mackenziecounty.com/
