Wildfires of note

There are six wildfires of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.


Basset Complex (HWF-058, PWF-067, PWF-079)

  • Wildfires HWF-058, PWF-067 and PWF-079 are part of the Basset Complex and are being managed together.
  • Wildfire HWF-058 is located 13 km northwest of Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at 37,921 hectares.
  • Wildfire PWF-067 is located 18 km from the intersection of the Keg River Highway and Highway 35 and 695 intersection. It is classified as out of control at 4,351 hectares.
  • Wildfire PWF-079 is classified as under control at 3.3 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

Kimiwan Complex (PWF-038, SWF-068)

  • Wildfires PWF-038 and SWF-068 are part of the Kimiwan Complex and are being managed together.
  • Wildfire SWF-068 is located northwest of Peavine Metis Settlement. It is classified as out of control at approximately 138,113 hectares.
  • Wildfire PWF-038 is located near Three Creeks and Simon Lake. It is classified as under control at approximately 6,534 hectares. 
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this complex.

GWF-038

  • This wildfire is located 10 km west of Deadwood Lake. It is classified as out of control at 7,148 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.
HWF-072
  • This wildfire is located 14 km southwest of the South Tallcree First Nation boundary. It is classified as out of control at 21,716 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.
PWF-074
  • This wildfire is located two km northwest of Little Buffalo. It is classified as out of control at 93.5 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

PWF091

  • This wildfire is classified as out of control at 97 hectares.
  • There are firefighters, helicopters and heavy equipment working on this wildfire.

Wildfires of note do not typically include mutual aid wildfires located outside of the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Alberta Wildfire provides assistance on a mutual aid wildfire but is not the lead agency.
