Wildfires of note

There is one wildfire of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.

 

Fire number: RWF038

Status: Being Held

Size: 507 hectares (ha)

Location: 19 km west of Nordegg

Infrastructure nearby: Provincial Recreation Areas

Resources assigned: 11 helicopters, three heavy equipment groups, Incident Management Team, Structural Protection Specialist and crews, 73 wildland firefighters.

 

Comments:

Thanks to the hard work of firefighters and support staff over the past several days, this wildfire is now classified as being held.

Today, helicopters will continue working on the wildfire from the air performing bucketing operations. Heavy equipment will continue to gain ground access and build a fire guard. The dozers will be working along the southeast flank of the fire. There will be helicopters, heavy equipment, and wildland firefighters working on the wildfire. 

Tomorrow's weather for the wildfire will be has the potential to reach 27 degrees with winds coming from the southeast at 10 km/h.

The evacuation order issued by Clearwater County has been lifted. This evacuation order was for Snow Creek PRA, Dry Haven PRA, Centre for Outdoor Education, Fish Lake PRA, Frontier Lodge and Goldeye Lake PRA. These areas are now under an evacuation alert, which has been issued by Clearwater County. An Evacuation Alert means residents and the public in the areas should be packed and prepared to leave on short notice should the wildfire status change. This Evacuation Alert will remain in place until further wildfire control and containment is achieved.

Wildfires of note do not typically include mutual aid wildfires located outside of the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Alberta Wildfire provides assistance on a mutual aid wildfire but is not the lead agency.
