Wildfires of note

There is one wildfire of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.

 

Fire number: WCU002

Status: Out of Control

Size: 2,320 hectares (ha)

Location: Approximately 7 km northwest of Evansburg on both sides of Highway 22, 3 km north of Highway 16.

Infrastructure nearby: scattered farms and residences, Highway 16, Hamlet of Evansburg

Resources assigned: 75 wildland firefighters, six helicopters, seven pieces of heavy equipment.

Comments:

The Yellowhead Highway was re-opened to east and westbound traffic as of 1:45 pm May 2nd.

 

Priority of work is perimeter containment with fire guard established around 75 per cent of the wildfire. The remaining 25 percent is not accessible to the dozers and is being controlled by aircraft and crews.

All evacuated residents should call 1-833-334-4630 to register as an evacuee or for more information.
