There is one wildfire of note in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta.

HWF030 - Amber River

HWF030 is classified as out of control at approximately 3,350 hectares. This wildfire is located about 8.5 km southwest of Zama in the High Level Forest Area. Temperatures are expected to reach 22 degrees today, with a relative humidity of 25-30% with winds from the north at 20-25 km/h gusting up to 40 km/h.

There are currently 125 firefighters with helicopters and heavy equipment groups responding to this wildfire. This includes three air tanker groups, which are currently working on the fire. An incident management team, which will coordinate frontline operations and supporting resources, is now in the Zama area to manage this wildfire.

Crews and heavy equipment made good progress yesterday. Work on the north flank guard to Shekelie Road is near completion, and the work of fire crews on the southeast, east and northeast flanks appears to be holding. Forty per cent of the fire is now contained by dozer guard.

Night operations have been successful, allowing good progress while wildfire behaviour is lower. Nigh-vision helicopters have been supporting operations in the overnight hours and will continue this evening.

Structural protection in key areas is installed and ready to go, should it be required.

Mackenzie County has issued an evacuation notice for Zama, as this wildfire (HWF030) to the SW of Zama is continuing to advance toward Chateh Road and the Zama Access Road. For more information, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/N8v1mnqaSA55Qo1j/ or https://mackenziecounty.com/

A wildfire of note is determined to be of significant public interest and may pose a threat to public safety, communities or critical infrastructure.

Wildfires of note do not typically include mutual aid wildfires located outside of the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Alberta Wildfire provides assistance on a mutual aid wildfire but is not the lead agency.
