Wildfire danger
The wildfire danger has climbed to MODERATE in the Slave Lake Forest Area due to the large areas of dry grass which are exposed.
Use caution in areas of dry grass as they are flammable and a fire will spread quickly under windy conditions. Report wildfires immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
Do your part to prevent wildfires.
Prior to burning with your fire permit ensure you are following the safe burning conditions that are written on your permit.
When riding your Off-Highway Vehicles stop frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.
Never leave your campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until the ashes are cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.
Firefighters burning grass
Firefighters will be burning grass in the communities of Kinuso, Wabasca and Driftpile starting today and over the weekend.
Burning will help to remove the dangerous build-up of dry grass that becomes prominent around many communities in the spring.
