The wildfire hazard for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is LOW. There are currently no fire advisories, restrictions or fire bans in place within the Forest Protection Area. Please continue to exercise caution and if you spot a wildfire or see smoke in a forested area please call 310-FIRE immediately to ensure that crews and resources are able to respond as soon as possible.
This wildfire season the Grande Prairie Forest Area has had 38 wildfires, burning approximately 10 hectares. All but one of these fire has been extinguished. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.
BEFORE YOU BURN IT, GET YOUR PERMIT For more information on fire permits or to obtain one call the Grande Prairie office at (780) 538-5560.
Remember to evaluate the weather at your specific location and follow the conditions stated on your permit. You can be held responsible if a fire escapes the burn permit area. If you have done burning on your land, its a good idea to check the burn pile for heat. Spread out remaining ash, unburnt fuel and probe the area for hot spots. using your hand feel for heat over the ash pile. If you see smoke or feel for heat, the fire is still burning beneath the surface. Drench the hots spots with water and stir up the ashes.
The Forest and Prairie Protection Act include fines up to $287 for abandoning campfires as well as for using fireworks and exploding targets in forested areas. Learn more about the act and fine amounts here.

The Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) is pleased to announce a new Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) for their Fire Smart Programme. Submission closing date is September 16, 2019 at 4pm.
