The Wildfire Danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is LOW

Wildfire Situation 

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 96 wildfires burning nearly 132 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For a map and more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit


As hunting season approaches it is important to prepared and avoid the dangers of wildfires while hunting.
  • Never leave a campfire unattended, always take the time to properly extinguish your campfire. Soak the fire with water stir up the ashes and soak it until no heat can be felt. Hunters should always carry a shovel and water pail to put out any campfires they see left unattended.
  • Be careful with all motorized equipment, a build-up of dry grass and vegetation around the exhaust and engine hot spots can smolder and fall off into dry grass starting a wildfire.
  • Be on the lookout for fires. To report a wildfire call 310-FIRE or #FIRE on your cellular phone.

Fire Permits 

From March 1st  until October 31st, fire permits are required for any burning except campfires in the Forest Protection Area (FPA). If you live within the FPA, please contact your local forestry office. Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
