2023 Seasonal-employment-Card

The 2022 wildfire season in Alberta ended on October 31. Permits are no longer required to burn within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Residents living outside the Forest Protection Area (FPA) can contact their municipality or local authority for more information about fire permit requirements.

For information on the wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit Alberta Wildfire Status Dashboard.

Before burning wood debris or brush this winter, make sure you have the proper tools on hand and only burn what you can control. Remember you are responsible for all fires you light and it is important to check your burn site over the winter months for signs of a holdover fire.

Use the following guidelines when preparing to burn brush piles or windrows bit.ly/3vuRJZ7

Smoke Safety

Smoke and smog is not just a summertime concern, it can also occur in the winter, often in communities where wood is used for home heating or residents are burning brush piles. When a temperature inversion happens, smoke can stay close to the ground and stick around the community during times of cold weather.  Wind speed and direction is an important factor to take into account when deciding whether to light a burn pile. Think about what could be downwind and if other residences, farms, roads or highways could be impacted by smoke. Check Environment Canada’s Air Quality Health Index to track winter smog in your community.
