The fire danger is low. This means a fire can still ignite but is not expected to spread to deeper vegetation layers or larger fuels, such as trees.

Wildfire Prevention
Holdover fires or ground fires often start during the fall and winter months from an improperly extinguished fire. Often, holdover fires burn without smoke or flame and smolder underground until conditions are right to start a wildfire.
Always check old burn areas for hot spots! Make sure they are out. To properly extinguish a fire, completely soak the area with water, stir up the ashes and soak the area again.
To report a wildfire call 310-FIRE (3473).
Fire Permits
During wildfire season, you are required to have a fire permit to burn within the Forest Protection Area (FPA), with the exception of a campfire.
Get a free fire permit by contacting your local forestry office or using the online Fire Permit Portal. Contact your local fire guardian or visit a Forestry office for a permit. Albertans living outside the FPA must contact their municipality or local authority for more information about fire permit requirements for burning. If you are planning on burning debris, it’s important to keep safe burning practices top of mind. Check your burn site for heat multiple times in the following weeks to ensure it has not reignited.

Fire permit holders, please remember to check the weather forecast before initiating any burning activities. This precaution ensures that you'll adhere to the safe burning conditions outlined on your fire permit.
