Prevent wildfires! 67% of wildfires in Alberta are caused by people. Do your part to prevent wildfires this spring.

When riding your off-highway vehicle, stop frequently to remove any build-up of debris from your machine. Grass, muskeg, moss or other debris can begin to smoulder and drop to the ground as you're riding and spark a wildfire. Always carry firefighting equipment such as a shovel, extinguisher and bucket when you ride.

If you see a wildfire, report it by calling 310-FIRE.

Wildfire information

Since January 1, 2024, 22 wildfires have been reported in the Grande Prairie Forest Area burning over 84 hectares.  All wildfires are listed as under control. Crews continue to work on extinguishing hotspots on active wildfires in the area.

2023 carryover wildfires

There are currently three carryover fires from the 2023 wildfire season. All carryover wildfires that are listed as under control. High level infrared scanning is planned for the coming week to determine if there are any hot spots remaining before these are determined extinguished.

Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation Hazard Reduction Burn

The Sturgeon Lake fire department's hazard reduction burn will continue into the weekend. Burning conditions remain optimal for a safe and effective burn. Hazard reduction burning is done in a controlled manner with trained professionals with appropriate equipment onsite.

Where hazard reduction burning has been carried out, we know that it slows the spread of fires, reduces their intensity, and lowers the potential for spot fires.
