The average wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is now HIGH with some areas in the south ranking at VERY HIGH. Strong gusty winds are expected over the coming days. These winds, combined with above seasonal temperatures and a lack of precipitation are driving up the wildfire danger. As the grasses have cured (died and dried out) and the deciduous trees are losing their leaves, there is now more dry fuel available to burn. If a wildfire ignites in these conditions, it has the potential to grow very quickly.

WILDFIRES IN THE CFA

There are currently no active wildfires in the CFA.

CWF-082 is now extinguished at 0.01 hectares. It was detected and actioned on September 30.

Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 82 wildfires which have burned 64.35 hectares.

CWF-082 ground fireCWF-082 was detected on September 30. Wildland firefighting crews from the CFA responded and extinguished this wildfire before it had the chance to grow any larger. At this time of year there is plenty of dry ground fuel to feed fast moving wildfires.

HUNTING SEASON

Hunting season is well underway in many of our foothill and mountain regions. If you are out hunting, please be sure to build your campfires in safe areas. Clear away any nearby dry vegetation and do not build your campfire in an area with overhanging branches. Keep your campfire fully attended at all times and be sure to FULLY extinguish it by soaking it, stirring it and soaking again.
