WILDFIRE DANGER

Dry and windy conditions continue today; we will see a wind gusts up to 60km/h. The weather conditions, combining with large areas of dead, dry grass, keep the wildfire danger at high in the Whitecourt Forest Area.

Please consider postponing all non-essential burning until conditions improve. If you have a fire permit, please follow the conditions on the permit.

When out working or recreating in forested areas, please take the necessary precautions to prevent a wildfire.

FIRE PERMITS ARE REQUIRED

Until October 31, free fire permits are required for any burning (except campfires) within the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Permits help firefighters know where planned burning is taking place, leaving them ready to respond to new wildfires.

If you need a fire permit in the Whitecourt Forest Area, call 780-778-7272.

If you burn without a permit, or outside of the permit conditions, your fire is a wildfire. Learn more.

hazard reduction burning

When conditions allow, controlled burning by trained firefighters will be taking place south of the Town of Swan Hills. This is a joint effort between our firefighters and the Town of Swan Hills Fire Department. The burning will remove standing dead grasses, which reduces the wildfire hazard. Read more...
