Whitecourt Forest Area Wildfire Update - May 12, 2019

The wildfire danger for the Whitecourt Forest Area is VERY HIGH.

 

A Fire Advisory has been issued for the Whitecourt Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to expected warm temperatures and an increasing fire danger.

Existing permits with the exception of burn barrels are suspended. No new permits will be issued during this time.

 The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

What is allowed:

Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings), backyards, or random camping areas

  • Charcoal briquettes
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

 

Wildfire Update - May 12, 2019
 
Since March 1, there have been 16 wildfires in the Whitecourt Forest Area burning a total of 6.06 hectares. 1 wildfire is under control and 15 have been extinguished.
 
Since March 1 in the Province of Alberta, there have been 280 wildfires burning a total of 1,545.47 hectares. 
 
 
 
If you are out using an off-highway vehicle in the forested areas stop often and remove debris from your hotspots. Exhaust systems can heat up to temperatures in excess of 204 degrees Celsius - hot enough to fry an egg and start a wildfire.
