Whitecourt Forest Area Wildfire Update

Be safe this long weekend while enjoying the forested areas of Alberta by fully extinguishing your campfire. When you're finished with your campfire, let the fire cool down and spread the coals within the designated fire ring. Soak the ashes, stir it up, and soak it again until the coals or woody debris is cold to the touch.

If you see smoke or flame in the forest please call 310-FIRE (3473) to report it.

WHITECOURT FOREST AREA UPDATE

Since January 1, 2024, there have been 58 wildfires in the Whitecourt Forest Area burning a total of 29 hectares (ha). There are no active wildfires in the Whitecourt Forest Area.

PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE UPDATE

Since January 1, there have been 1,112 wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area (FPA) that have burned 707,926 hectares. There are currently 74 active wildfires in the FPA. Of these wildfires, one is classified as out of control, 29 are being held and 44 are under control.

LAST LONG WEEKEND OF THE SUMMER

Before heading out this long weekend, please check Alberta Fire Bans to determine whether there are any fire advisories, restrictions or bans in effect for your destination. If you plan on having a campfire, keep it small, safe and always attended. When you are leaving your site, your campfire must be fully extinguished. Soak it, stir it, soak it again to ensure it is out.

Off-highway vehicles can start wildfires. Please stop often to clean your exhaust to ensure you are not the cause of a wildfire. Always carry firefighting equipment such as: a fire extinguisher, water, hand tools, etc.

Please remember that fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited in the Forest Protection Area without the express written permission from a Forest Officer. The use of these items could earn you a $600 written violation and if you are found responsible for causing a wildfire you could also be held responsible for the costs associated with extinguishing that wildfire.
