The wildfire danger across the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is very high. 

The Rocky Mountain House Forest Area is currently under a heat warning due to forecasted extremely hot temperatures, which heightens the risk of wildfires. Please exercise caution when recreating outdoors especially when having campfires or using off-highway vehicles (OHV's). 


Fire Advisory banner

A fire advisory is now in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, due to hot and dry conditions. 

Under this advisory:

  • Existing fire permits are valid, but extension requests may not be granted. Permit holders must follow the safe burning conditions outlined on the fire permit.
  • New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, for essential burning only.
  • Safe wood campfires.
  • Backyard fire pits.
  • Portable propane fire pits.
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues.
  • Catalytic or infrared style heaters
Prohibited:
  • Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire is prohibited.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Rocky Mountain House Forest Area Wildfire Update

There are currently no active wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area. 

Since January 1, 2024, there have been 39 wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, which have burned 6.28 hectares (ha). 

Provincial Wildfire Update (as of 10:00 am July 8, 2024)

  • Since January 1, there have been 632 wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area that have burned 87,002.38 hectares (ha). Of these wildfires, 13 are classified as out of control, 20 are being held, 27 are under control and 570 have been extinguished.
  • There are four carryover wildfires from the 2023 season.
