Rocky Mountain House Area Update

The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area remains HIGH. 

Report smoke or fire in the forest by calling 310-FIRE (3473). 

FIRE ADISORY IN EFFECT

A fire advisory remains in effect for the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to dry conditions and increasing spring winds.

Under this advisory:

• Existing fire permits are still valid but may be suspended or cancelled if dry conditions continue
• No new fire permits will be issued until the advisory is lifted
• Permits for the use of fireworks and exploding targets will not be issued

Prohibited:

• Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited

Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HOUSE FOREST AREA UPDATE

There is currently one wildfire burning in the Rocky Mountain House forest Area. This wildfire is classified as under control. Since January 1, 2023 there have been eight wildfires in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area, burning a total of 24.73 hectares (ha).

Wildfires can still happen in the winter. Ensure you have the proper fire fighting equipment nearby when you're burning. If you are having a campfire please ensure you soak it, stir it and soak it again once you are done with it.

PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE UPDATE 

Since January 1, 2023 in the Forest Protection Area, there have been 138 wildfires burning a total of 342.9 ha.

PRESCRIBED FIRE - RIBBON CREEK

Guard burning operations have ceased on the Ribbon Creek Prescribed Fire. Crews burned approximately one third of the guard. Unless suitable conditions present again this spring, operations are now complete for 2023 and we will not be burning the main unit this year. Our colleagues with Alberta Parks have reopened the closure areas and we thank you for your cooperation.
