PEACE RIVER FOREST AREA / WILDFIRE SITUATION

There are currently no active wildfires in the Peace River Forest Area. Since January 1, there has been one wildfire in the Peace River Forest Area, which burned approximately 0.02 hectares.

Wildfires can start in colder conditions. Dead and dry vegetation is extremely flammable.

Fires that aren't extinguished properly in the winter can smoulder underground for months and re-emerge as wildfires in the spring when the conditions are right. We ask Albertans to follow safe burning practices year round.

Alberta Wildfire is currently hiring seasonal wildfire support positions for 2025 including:

Wildfire Dispatcher

The wildfire dispatcher takes appropriate actions to move, place, or direct wildfire resources with direction from a duty officer. Working with a variety of communication equipment, the wildfire dispatcher provides the communication links between the area duty room, aircraft, lookouts, and crews working in the field.

Wildfire Logistics Assistant

The logistics assistant coordinates personnel, hires equipment, ground transport, rentals, fuel, communications, accommodations, and meals and commissary as directed by the logistics coordinator and the duty officer.

Wildfire Data Entry

The wildfire data entry worker supports administration. Their primary role is the accurate, consistent and timely entry of information into various wildfire databases.

Seasonal Alberta Wildfire positions are typically 3-6 months, anticipated between March 1st and October 31st.
