Due to extremely dry conditions, all active fire permits are suspended and no new permits are being issued within the Forest Protection Area of the Lac La Biche Wildfire Management Area. The FIRE ADVISORY remains in place. There is NO BURNING except campfires, within the LLB WMA at this time. Stay tuned for further developments.
The wildfire hazard is VERY HIGH for the Lac La Biche area. The forecast for tomorrow is for a high of 25 with humidity of 15%, and light winds at S10. There is no precip in the forecast for the next several days. The reason the hazard dropped from EXTREME today to VERY HIGH for tomorrow is because the wind speed dropped. Minor changes to windspeed can produce significant changes in fire behavior under current conditions. If the winds pick up again, you can expect the wildfire hazard to increase. Caution is advised in the forest, particularly in areas with flashy surface fuels.
We had no new fires today! There are currently 6 fires in the area. All fires are under control.
We have 19 crews, 14 helicopters, air tankers, cat units, water trucks and other heavy equipment at work in the area. We are assisting on several fires outside of the forest protection area in neighboring counties.
The forest is particularly volatile this week. Don't take unnecessary chances. No burning at this time. Be diligent when riding quads, ATVs and side-by-sides. One side-by-side was completely destroyed by fire when it started a wildfire recently. Keep campfires small - travelling sparks will be hazardous. No fireworks.
