High winds are expected today. Please use extreme caution while recreating or working in the forest where sparks can easily ignite areas of dry vegetation.
LAC LA BICHE WILDFIRE UPDATE
The wildfire danger in the Lac La Biche Forest Area is VERY HIGH today. When we experience periods of very high fire behavior this can mean that if a wildfire does occur, high-intensity fire is expected. Wildfire will spread quickly and can challenge suppression efforts.
Since January 1, 2023, there have been 180 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area, burning 7,934 hectares (ha).
There are currently nine wildfires burning in the Lac La Biche forest area and they're all classified as under control and pose no threat to any communities or infrastructure.
PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE UPDATE
Since January 1, 2023 in the Forest Protection Area, there have been 1,003 wildfires burning a total of 1,973,720 ha.
SOAK IT, STIR IT, AND SOAK IT AGAIN
Human-caused wildfires are 100% preventable. Do your part by fully extinguishing your campfire by soaking your campfire with water, stirring the ashes, and soaking the stirred ashes till they're cold to the touch.
Always ensure you use a designated metal campfire ring or a ring of rocks made on bare mineral soil. Choose a spot with no low-hanging branches and out of the wind. Check out

PERMITS
Only burn what you can control. High winds can carry embers long distances. Always be prepared and have fire fighting equipment ready. A large water vessel or fire extinguisher can help but wildfires can start and get out of hand quickly. Use extreme caution in these conditions or save it for another day.
