LONG WEEKEND MESSAGE
As we head into the long weekend it is important to remember that you should always extinguish your campfires. Please do you part in preventing human-caused wildfires by soaking it, stirring it and soaking it again till the coals are cold to the touch.
If you're recreating in the forest this weekend with an off-highway vehicle you should stop often to cool down the machine. Check your hotspots as dry grass and fine fuels can become stuck in the ohv. The dry vegetation will heat up from the machine and drop off starting a wildfire as you ride away.
Always carry a fire extinguisher, water, or a shovel with you as your ride. If you see smoke or flame in the forest please call 310-FIRE (3473).
FIRESMART - FARM AND ACREAGE
This is a busy time of year with many farm operations underway. Some things to keep in mind are the dry and hot conditions we have been experiencing. When you're baling or conducting farming operations in these types of conditions machinery can spark and start a wildfire. For example, the dry material you're collecting is very dry and can ignite quickly. It's always a good idea to keep equipment in good working order. As a precaution we encourage operators to have a water source nearby and fire fighting equipment like a fire extinguisher on the machine.
There are steps you can take to mitigate the risk of wildfire to your home and your property. If you're interested in more information please visit this
