LONG WEEKEND MESSAGE
When you're out recreating and enjoying the long weekend we ask that if you have a campfire to fully extinguish it by soaking it, stirring it, and soaking it again.
If you are riding an off-highway vehicle in areas of dry grass we ask that you stop often and clear your hotspots. Please carry a water vessel or a small fire extinguisher with you as a precaution.
LAC LA BICHE WILDFIRE UPDATE
The wildfire danger in the Lac La Biche Forest Area is MODERATE today.
Since January 1, 2023, there have been 175 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area, burning 7,928 hectares (ha).
There are currently eight wildfires burning in the Lac La Biche forest area and they're all classified as under control.
LWF138 was detected on May 29 and is classified as under control at 4,800 ha. The wildfire is located approximately 9.2 km northeast of Winefred Lake. This wildfire is being monitored and poses no threat to communities.
LWF148 was detected on June 7 and is classified as under control at 2,317 ha. This wildfire is being monitored and poses no threat to communities.
LWF163 was detected on June 30 and is classified as under control at 137 ha. This wildfire is being monitored and poses no threat to communities.
LSZ001 is burning in Alberta and Saskatchewan in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range and is classified as under control. The total area burned on the Alberta side is 4,900 hectares. This wildfire is being monitored and poses no threat to communities.
PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE UPDATE
Since January 1, 2023 in the Forest Protection Area, there have been 938 wildfires burning a total of 1,819,017 ha.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Wildfire crews from the Lac La Biche Forest Area were able to take a break and connect with members of the community yesterday during the Summer Days parade. We are thankful for the wildland firefighters who have worked long hours, away from their loved ones to assist with the wildfire situation across the province.

FIRE PERMITS
Fire permits help us track what is burning on the landscape. If you are burning without a permit or not following permit conditions, your fire could be considered a wildfire and you could be fined and may be responsible for the costs of suppressing the fire.
Fire permits are free and are now available online. Visit firepermits.alberta.ca for information on how to make a request online.
