The wildfire danger in the Lac La Biche Forest Area is MODERATE. 

The fire restriction has been lifted in the Lac La Biche Forest Area. A fire advisory is now in effect for the area north of Janvier. Please visit albertafirebans.ca for a map of the boundaries. 


FIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT

A fire advisory is in effect for the portion of the Lac La Biche Forest Area located north of Janvier. 

Due to current and forecasted weather conditions, no new permits will be issued. All existing permits remain valid but renewals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Prohibited:

  • Burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.

Allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Municipalities, Parks and protected areas may have additional fire safety requirements.

Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished.

If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

WILDFIRE SITUATION 
 
Since January 1, 2023, there have been 168 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area, burning 7,966 hectares (ha).
 
There are currently 13 wildfires burning in the Lac La Biche forest area. Of these fires, one is classified as out of control, two are classified as being held and 10 are classified as under control.
 
LWF138 was detected on May 29 and is classified as being held at 4,800 ha. The wildfire is located approximately 9.2 km northeast of Winefred Lake. This wildfire is being monitored and poses no threat to communities. 
 
LWF148  was detected on June 7 and is classified as  under control at 2,317 ha. This wildfire is being monitored and poses no threat to communities. 
 
LWF163 was detected on June 30 and is classified as being held at 175 ha. Firefighters are currently working on this wildfire with the support of helicopters. 
 
LSZ001 is burning in Alberta and Saskatchewan in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range and is classified as out of control. The total area burned on the Alberta side is 4,900 hectares. This wildfire is being monitored and poses no threat to communities.

Since January 1, 2023 in the Forest Protection Area, there have been 815 wildfires burning a total of 1,530,974 ha.
