Lac La Biche Forest Area

The wildfire danger in the Lac La Biche Forest Area is LOW.

The fire restriction has been lifted in the Lac La Biche Forest Area. A fire advisory is now in effect for the area north of Janvier. Please visit albertafirebans.ca for a map of the boundaries.

FIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT

A fire advisory is in effect for the portion of the Lac La Biche Forest Area located north of Janvier.

Due to current and forecasted weather conditions, no new permits will be issued. All existing permits remain valid but renewals will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Prohibited:

Burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.

Allowed:

Safe wood campfires
Backyard fire pits
Portable propane fire pits
Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Municipalities, Parks and protected areas may have additional fire safety requirements.

Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

WILDFIRE SITUATION

Since January 1, 2023, there has been 168 wildfires in the Lac La Biche Forest Area, burning approximately 7,966 ha. There are currently 14 wildfires burning in the Lac La Biche forest area. Of these fires, one is classified as out of control, two are classified as being held and 11 are classified as under control.

LWF138 was detected Monday, May 29, 2023 and is classified as being held at 4,800 ha. The wildfire is located approximately 9.2 km northeast of Winefred Lake. Firefighters are currently monitoring this wildfire. There is no threat to communities at this time.

LWF148 was detected Wednesday, June 7, 2023 and it is now classified as under control at 2,317 hectares (ha). Three firefighting crews and four helicopters are working on this wildfire.

LSZ001 is burning in Alberta and Saskatchewan in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range and is classified as out of control. The total area burned is 4,900 hectares. Firefighters are currently monitoring this wildfire. There is no threat to communities at this time.
