HWF-190 is currently listed as being held at 178 hectares in size, and is located approximately 18 kilometers southeast of La Crete.   The north end of the fire is being contained by fire retardant, and a dozer guard is currently being built around the south side of the fire.  Crews are on the ground supporting the fire by laying hose and setting up water pumps.

WILDFIRE HAZARD

Even though the High Level Wildfire Management Area (HLWMA) has received some rain, it has not been enough to bring the wildfire hazard to a lower level. The hazard remains High for the HLWMA. The HLWMA is urging Albertans to use extra caution while working and/or recreating in the forested areas and respect the fire advisory.

A fire advisory is in effect for the High Level Wildfire Management Area due to the High wildfire hazard. Existing fire permits continue to be suspended and new fire permits will not be issued. Safe campfires are permitted, but may be restricted in the coming days if conditions worsen.

However, with significant rain fall on the west side of the HLWMA fire permits for areas west of the sixth meridian are available. All other areas within the HLWMA are still under permit suspension because rainfall amounts have not been significant enough to reduce the wildfire hazard in these areas.

For permit requests please call 780-926-5407.

Please check Albertafirebans.ca for more information or call 1-866-FYI-FIRE.

FIRE PERMITS

Due to the Fire Advisory existing fire permits continue to be suspended and new fire permits will not be issued with the exception of smudges. For a smudge permit please call 780-926-5407.

However, with significant rain fall on the west side of the HLWMA we are comfortable providing fire permits for areas west of the sixth meridian. All other areas within the HLWMA are still under permit suspension because rainfall amounts have not been significant enough to reduce the wildfire hazard in these areas.
