WILDFIRE UPDATE | OCTOBER 12, 2021
There are three wildfires in the High Level Forest Area, all of which are classified as Under Control (UC). Since March 1st there have been 86 wildfires in the High Level Forest Area burning a total of 2,943 hectares.

PROVINCIAL UPDATE

SMOKE HAZARD
Agriculture and Forestry, the High Level Fire Department and FP Innovations are conducting a research project in the High Level Forest Area over the next 10 days. The goal of this research is to find creative and innovative ways to manage and fight wildfires more effectively around our communities. Once this project is completed, FP Innovations will be releasing a results based document.
During this project there will be debris burning conducted south of the Town of High Level at the West Fraser/Norbord mill site and north of the Town of High Level at the Tolko storage yard by Hutch Lake. The burning of debris will occur from October 13 to October 20, 2021. Please be advised that the controlled burning in these areas is expected to create a low to moderate amount of smoke, which may impact visibility along Highway 35. Smoke signage will be posted along Highway 35. Please use extra caution while driving in these areas. FIRE PERMITS
From March 1st until October 31st, fire permits are required for any burning, excluding campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. To request your free fire permit, call the High Level Forest Area permit line at 780-926-5407. Leave a message with your home location, burn location, what you plan to burn and our patrolmen will get back to you.
Be aware of your permit conditions and when it is and isn't appropriate to burn. During wildfire season, fire permits may be suspended or cancelled, depending on the wildfire danger.

SAFE CAMPFIRE
