The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is VERY HIGH.
Wildfire Situation as of August 14, 2021 at 9:00pm
At this time, there are two active wildfire in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. One is listed as Under Control (UC) the other is listed as Being Held (BH) meaning with the resources currently committed to the fire that enough suppression action has been taken that the fire is not likely to spread beyond existing boundaries.
Since March 1, 2021 there have been 92 wildfires burning nearly 130 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For a map and more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit wildfirestatus.alberta.ca
Last year 88 per cent of wildfires were human-caused, meaning most wildfires are preventable. Caution is urged to anyone recreating or working in the Forest Protection Area of Grande Prairie. One spark could result in a major wildfire. Extreme wind speeds, low humidity and dry fuel conditions all contribute to a VERY HIGH wildfire danger.
