The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is HIGH.
The FIRE ADVISORY will remain in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area as a high chance of lightning will pass through the area over the next 24 hours. New lightning caused wildfires may be a result. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE or #FIRE on your cell
Wildfire Situation
At this time, there are six active wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. Five are listed as Under Control (UC) and one is Being Held (BH).
Since March 1, 2021 there have been 86 wildfires burning nearly 130 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For a map and more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit wildfirestatus.alberta.ca
A fire advisory is in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area, due to warm and windy weather conditions.
Under this advisory:
• Current fire permits remain valid;
• New fire permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis.
Prohibited:
• Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.
Allowed:
• Safe wood campfires *
• Backyard fire pits
• Portable propane fire pits
• Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
• Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
*Safe wood campfires - should be within a metal, brick, or rock fire ring.
They are required to:
• Be on rock, gravel, sand, or another non-combustible surface that extends at least one metre around the fire;
• Have a responsible person in attendance to keep fire under control at all times and extinguish before leaving;
• Have on hand enough water on site to extinguish the fire. Safe wood campfires on private lands include private land campgrounds and private land recreation areas; and
• Municipalities, Parks and protected areas may have additional fire safety requirements.
Fire permits
During wildfire season, you are required to have a fire permit to burn within the Forest Protection Area (FPA), with the exception of a campfire. To request your fire permit, contact the local forest area. For permits outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.

Wildfire prevention is everyone's responsibility, please be extra careful with fire and limit the number of human caused wildfires in our area. Never leave your campfire unattended, soak it with water, stir it it up and soak it again. The campfire isn't extinguished until it is cool to the touch. Always carry firefighting equipment when traveling in Forest Protection Area.
