Grande Prairie Area Update

Grande Prairie Forest Area- June 1, 2021

Posted on Tue, Jun 01, 2021

A Fire Advisory is now in effect. The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is HIGH.

Gusty wind can cause extreme fire behavior and allow fire to grow rapidly. Residents and visitors to the Grande Prairie Forest Area are urged to be extra cautious with fire at this time.

Wildfire Situation

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 36 wildfires burning nearly 59 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit
Fire Advisory 1
A fire advisory is now in effect for the Grande Prairie Forest Area section of the Forest Protection Area due to forecast winds and increasing temperatures.
Under this advisory:
  • Existing fire permits are still valid, but be sure to review your permit conditions prior to burning.
  • New permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, only for essential burning.
  • Any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire.
Off-highway vehicles (OHVs) can start wildfires.  Please stop often to clean your exhaust and always ensure your OHV is clean and properly maintained.
If you plan on having a campfire, keep it small, safe and always attended.  Prior to leaving your site or turning in for the evening, please ensure that your campfire has been fully extinguished. Soak it, stir it, soak it again to ensure it is out.
If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
The fire advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
