Fighting forest fires is a demanding but rewarding experience. 

Alberta Wildfire offers a variety of seasonal job opportunities to support the management of forest and wildfire resources. Positions range from working on the fireline to supporting wildfire prevention efforts. Explore the employment opportunities online. Wildfire Situation | November 22, 2022 - 4:00 p.m.

While Oct.31 marked the end of the legislated wildfire season in Alberta, it is essential that people remain alert and responsive to conditions. 

Since January 1, 2022 there have been 85 wildfires burning over 122 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. At this time, 83 of these fires have been extinguished, two are listed as under control and one is being held. 

Wildfire GWF 084, located near Cattail Lake, was detected on November 3, 2022. This wildfire is listed as being held and is regularly monitored by Alberta Wildfire staff. The status of GWF 084 will be updated once conditions allow for better mapping and assessment. Cutting Christmas trees from Alberta's forests

To cut your own Christmas tree from Alberta’s public forests, you simply need a Personal Use Forest Products Permit (PUFPP). The permit allows you to harvest up to three Christmas trees from designated areas on Crown land.
