Written by Kelly Burke | May 27, 2021 11:06:23 PM

The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now LOW. Cool temperatures and scattered thundershowers have been forecasted for our forest area over the next 24 hours, potentially resulting in new lightning caused wildfires.

Wildfire Situation

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 36 wildfires burning nearly 59 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit wildfirestatus.alberta.ca

Put Out Your Campfire

Make sure your campfire is fully extinguished. A campfire can burn deep into the ground and flare up again during dry or windy weather. Soak the ashes and stir them. Keep soaking the ashes until they are cool to the touch. Even if you are going for a short hike, make sure your campfire is out. Learn more here.

Fire Permits

From March 1st until October 31st, fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Do not burn during windy conditions. You can be held responsible if a fire escapes the burn permit area. Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
