Grande Prairie Area Update

Grande Prairie Forest Area - June 16, 2021

Posted on Fri, Jun 11, 2021

The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now HIGH. When wildfire danger is high fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly. It is important to exercise extreme caution while working or recreating in Alberta’s forests.

Equipment fires; work related sparks; friction and hot exhaust all can cause a wildfire. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.

Wildfire Situation

Since March 1, 2021 there have been 47 wildfires burning nearly 63 hectares in the Grande Prairie Forest Area. For more information on the current wildfire situation across the province of Alberta visit

Fire Permits

During wildfire season, you are required to have a fire permit if you plan on burning in the Forest Protection Area (FPA), with the exception of a campfire. To request your fire permit, contact the local forest area. Do not burn during windy conditions. Anyone living outside the FPA can contact their municipality for information about local fire permit requirements.
