Fire Advisory in Effect

The wildfire danger is VERY HIGH in the Fort Chipewyan/Fort Smith forest areas and VERY HIGH to EXTREME in the Fort McMurray forest area. Brisk SE winds and lower RH values are expected.

FireAdvisory

  • FIRE ADVISORY IN EFFECT as of 0900 HRS.
    A Fire Advisory has been issued for the Fort McMurray Forest Area due to dry and windy conditions. Previous burning sites should be checked to ensure they are fully extinguished. No new fire permits will be issued.
    What is allowed:
    Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings) or random camping areas
    Charcoal briquettes
    Portable propane fire pits
    Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
    Catalytic or infrared-style heaters
  • Remember to check the hot spots on your Off-Highway Vehicle and remove debris before and after use. Never leave a campfire unattended. 
  • The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Fort McMurray Forest Area Situation
Since March 1, 2018 there have been 4 wildfires that have burned .04 hectares. Three have been extinguished and 1 is under control at .01 hectares. 
 
Mutual Aid
Alberta Forestry resources continue to assist with a wildfire spotted yesterday near the Fort McMurray Water Treatment Plant in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. 

Provincial Situation 
There are currently 24 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. One wildfire is being held, 12 wildfires are under control and 11 wildfires have been turned over to the responsible parties. Two of the wildfires classified as under control are those that were actioned prior to the current wildfire season and are still being monitored.

Since March 1, 2018 Alberta has recorded 195 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area that have burned a total of 489.37 hectares.
