Current Wildfire Danger: The current wildfire hazard remains VERY HIGH for the Fort McMurray Forest Area. Fort Chipewyan is HIGH and Fort Smith has a MODERATE wildfire danger.
There may be smoke drifting into the forest area from wildfires in British Columbia and the Northwest Territories.

Wildfire Situation Reports
Since March 1, 2017 there have been 64 fires in the Fort McMurray Forest Area. As of 4 p.m., 3 are being held and 1 is under control.
- MWF-062 - This fire in the Fort McMurray Forest Area is now being held at 11 hectares, located approximately 10 km south of Namur Lake No. 174B. Crews are still actively fighting this fire.
Provincially, there are currently 11 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. 2 are out of control, 2 are being held, 5 are under control and 2 have been turned over to the responsible parties.
Since March 1, Alberta has recorded 845 wildfires in the Forest Protection Area that have burned a total of 3,897.55 hectares.

Forest and Prairie Protection Act | Legislative and Regulatory Changes
The Alberta government is committed to protecting Albertans and their communities from the threat of wildfire. Many wildfires are caused by human-activity, approximately 70% over the past 6 years, and are 100 per cent preventable.
Last fall legislation was passed to enhance wildfire prevention, to deter risky behaviour and give wildland firefighters more tools to keep Albertans and their communities safe.
