Wildfire Situation Reports
Since March 1, 2017 there have been 58 fires in the Fort McMurray Forest Area. As of 10 am, 1 is out of control and 1 is under control.
- MWF-057 is currently out of control. It measures 25 hectares and is located approximately 5 km north of the Kearl Lake Plant. There are 2 firetack crews, 2 helicopters and an airtanker fighting this fire.

Pond 63 Clean Up
Thank you to everyone who took time July 21 to come and clean up Pond 63. There were uniforms from multiple departments as well as the public who participated in the event. Barricades were placed along the shoreline to prevent future vehicle access as well as instalation of new signage. Over 5000 pounds of trash were hauled to the dump.
Forest and Prairie Protection Act | Legislative and Regulatory Changes
The Alberta government is committed to protecting Albertans and their communities from the threat of wildfire. Many wildfires are caused by human-activity, approximately 70% over the past 6 years, and are 100 per cent preventable.
Last fall legislation was passed to enhance wildfire prevention, to deter risky behaviour and give wildland firefighters more tools to keep Albertans and their communities safe.
