Wildfire Hazard
The wildfire hazard is at MODERATE in the Edson Forest Area (EFA). However, areas of dry, brown grass are flammable and will ignite easily. Be careful if burning and have a water source nearby.
FIRE ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT - MAY 8, 2017
Due to current and forecasted weather conditions, the Fire Advisory remains in place for the Edson Forest Area.
Under this advisory:
- The issuing and/or suspension of permits is left to the discretion of a forest officer until conditions change.
- Light flashy fuels such as dry grass will ignite easily and spread quickly. Use extreme caution if burning over the next few days and have a water source nearby.
- Small, safe cooking and warming campfires are allowed in backyards, campgrounds, back country and random camping areas. However, caution should be exercised during windy conditions.
The Fire Advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Edson Forest Area (EFA) conditions
Currently there are no wildfires in the EFA.
Since the start of the 2017 wildfire season the EFA has responded to three wildfires that have burned 0.52 hectares.
Hazardous reduction burns are a type of prescribed fire used to burn off the buildup of heavy, matted, dry grass and other fine fuels. By burning the grass in the spring we can mitigate the risk of a wildfire starting and spreading into the nearby forest.
