WILDFIRE SITUATION | July 2, 2018, at 4:00 p.m.

The Quigley Creek Wildfire (EWF-077) - Classified as being held at 1,274 hectares in size.  No communities are threatened.

In the past 24 hours, the Quigley Creek fire seen consistent light precipitation which is greatly helping fire fighters extinguish the smoldering hot spots.

Thanks to the hard work of firefighters, the classification of the wildfire is being held; meaning the wildfire is not expected to move beyond predetermined boundaries.

Location of the wildfire has not changed since the evening of June 28, 2018; it remains   approximately:

  • 15 km south east of Hinton
  • 28 km north west of Robb
  • 60 km south west of Edson
  • 6 km from McLeod Campground (Km 35 Robb Road)

 See MAP

EWF077 July 30th

What is expected today: the fire received approximately 8 mm of rain over night and throughout the day.  With cooler temperatures and more rain in the forecast, we aren't expecting a lot of fire behavior today.

100 firefighters, 3 helicopters and a few pieces of heavy equipment will continue to focus on  the perimeter of the wildfire, extinguishing smoldering ground fires; reinforcing the fireguard.

The helicopters are no longer bucketing but will continue to move crews and assist with overview flights of the fire.

The fireguard looks like a road running right to left across the image. Fireguard is a strategically planned barrier, intended to stop or slow the rate of spread of a fire. Once it's established, firefighters and heavy equipment can work from the constructed barrier towards the interior of the fire, working to control it.

Since March 1, 2018, there have been 83 wildfires in the Edson Forest Area; burning a total of 1,301.39 hectares.
