Edson Forest Area Wildfire Update - June 27, 2018 10:30pm

Posted on Wed, Jun 27, 2018

GFX-HSB-WildfireDangerUpdate-VeryHigh.jpgThe fire danger in the Edson Forest Area (EFA) is Very High.

An information station will be set up at Green Square in Hinton tomorrow morning (June 28th).  We encourage the public to stop by and get the latest updates about the wildfires in the area.

We're asking the public to stay off lakes that are being used to draw water to fight fires.

The size is now estimated at 700 hectares and winds are coming from the west. Helicopters and airtankers will cease for the evening.  There will be 30 fire fighters and heavy equipment working overnight to contain this wildfire. We are doing our best right now to bring the fire under control as quickly as possible.

Wildfire EWF-077 is currently burning out of control (OC) approximately 15 kilometers south east of  Hinton, AB and moving towards the east.

The fire is currently;

  • 15 kms south east of Hinton
  • 28 kms north west of Robb
  • 60 kms west/south west of Edson
  • 6 kms from McLeod Campground (Km35 Robb Road)

There are no communities at risk at this time.

High winds and no precipitation is driving the wildfire danger up to Very High.  We would like to remind everyone to use extreme caution when having a campfire.  Sparks can land in dry debris and start a wildfire.  Are resources are currently busy fighting wildfire 077.  Always ensure you have water accessible and never leave your fire unattended.

A reminder to follow the conditions of your permit if burning.

BURN IT WITH A PERMIT

Fire permits are required for any burning (except campfires) in the Forest Protection Area (FPA) of Alberta. Contact your local Agriculture and Forestry office to schedule a site visit to obtain a free permit. Fire permits ensure safe burning practices and allow staff to know where burning is approved so firefighters and aircraft are free to fight wildfires.
