Dry grass can catch easily and burn quickly. Areas of exposed dry grass and fine fuels are a concern and any spark, friction or hot exhaust can easily start a wildfire even when the temperatures are cooler.

Ensure you adhere to your burn permit, never burn in windy conditions and always extinguish your campfire.

If you see smoke or flame and suspect it's a wildfire, call 310-FIRE.

JASPER NATIONAL PARK | PRESCRIBED BURN

Jasper National Park’s fire management specialists have ignited the remaining 300 hectares of the Henry House prescribed fire, approximately 13 kilometres northeast of the Jasper townsite.

The operation will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, and is expected to be completed within one day. Monitoring and clean-up activities will extend for several days following the burn.

Earlier this month, Jasper National Park crews successfully burned fireguards to protect infrastructure in the area. Establishing these fireguards was the first step in completing the Henry House prescribed fire.

This strategically located prescribed fire is an important part of an ongoing program to restore healthy grasslands, create greater forest diversity, and help reduce the risk of wildfire.
