The overall wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is LOW. Another system blanketed most of the CFA with snow. Many areas received substantial snowfall providing much needed moisture.

FIRE RESTRICTION AND FIRE ADVISORY LIFTED

Due to cool and wet conditions, both the Fire Restriction and Fire Advisory that were in place over the CFA have been lifted.

For updated information on fire advisories, fire restrictions and fire bans across the province visit albertafirebans.ca.

WILDFIRES IN THE CFA

Since January 1, the CFA has responded to six wildfires which burned a total of 1.02 hectares. They have all been extinguished.

CWF-006 was assessed on April 27 and is now extinguished at 0.10 hectares. The cause is under investigation.

The CFA also provided Mutual Aid assistance to Cypress County. Five wildland firefighters, one 8-person firetack crew and a helicopter assisted on CCU-001 near Redcliff.

FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED

Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Fire permits help us to track what is burning on the landscape. If you're burning without a fire permit or outside fire permit conditions, your fire is considered a wildfire. By getting a permit before burning, you help keep our firefighters free to fight real wildfires instead of responding to the smoke from your burning projects.

To request a fire permit online, visit this website. You will need an Alberta.ca Account to access the portal. Please note that you can still request your permit from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800.
