Calgary Forest Area Wildfire Update - September 9, 2022

CURRENT CONDITIONS IN THE CALGARY FOREST AREA

The average wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is MODERATE. Most stations in the CFA received precipitation in the past 24-48 hours. This was sufficient to moderate the wildfire danger, but only in the short term. Very warm temperatures are once again forecast with no sign of additional precipitation. 

Fire Ban bannerThe FIRE BAN remains effect for the southern portions of the CFA. A detailed map of the area and further info can be found on albertafirebans.ca. Under this FIRE BAN:

  • Existing fire permits are suspended
  • All outdoor fires presently burning under permit must be extinguished, unless approved to continue by a Forest Officer

Prohibited:

  • Wood campfires on public land -this includes all random camping areas on crown land.
  • Wood campfires in designated campgrounds
  • Wood campfires and backyard fire pits on private land
  • Charcoal briquette barbeques
  • Fireworks
  • Exploding targets

Allowed:

  • Propane or natural gas fueled appliances
  • Indoor wood fires
  • Open flame oil devices

Peace Officers are issuing written warnings and written violations ($600) for non-compliance within the FIRE BAN area. Patrols will continue for the duration of the FIRE BAN.

Fire Advisory 1There is now a FIRE ADVISORY in the northern portions of the CFA.  Under this FIRE ADVISORY

  • No new fire permits will be issued
  • Existing permits remain valid until the expiry date
  • Campfires are currently allowed, but may be restricted in the coming weeks if conditions continue to worsen


WILDFIRES IN THE CFA

There are currently no active wildfires in the CFA.

Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 160 wildfires which burned a total of 13.77 hectares.


LIMITED POSTS

Posts will be limited during the mourning period for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
