CURRENT CONDITIONS IN THE CALGARY FOREST AREA
The average wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) is now LOW. Some scattered, light precipitation fell across the area helping to moderate the wildfire danger. The wildfire danger will remain elevated in areas where the snow has melted and there is exposed dead and dry vegetation.
WILDFIRES IN THE CFA
There are currently two active wildfires in the CFA.
ANP-OO7 (Dormer Wildfire) is now classified as BEING HELD and is estimated at 669 hectares. A BEING HELD status means that the wildfire is not expected to grow beyond pre-determined boundaries given current resources and forecast weather. Alberta Wildfire is working in conjunction with Parks Canada to control this wildfire.
Weather conditions are helping with suppression efforts. Winds have been calmer than forecasted and cool overnight temperatures and higher relative humidity with some rain and snow are keeping wildfire activity minimal.
Accessing the wildfire area is strongly discouraged at this time. Although the winds were not as severe as predicted over the past few days, it remains an active site with crews and aircraft working. In addition, trees that have been impacted by the wildfire may fall without warning.
CWF-167 is classified as UNDER CONTROL at 2 hectares and was caused by lightning. Crews will patrol this wildfire to ensure no hot spots remain.
FIRE PERMITS
The last day of the 2022 wildfire season is Monday October 31. Please remember that a permit is required for all burning (with the exception of campfires) until November 1. Permits can be obtained online or by calling the Calgary Forest Area main office at (403) 297-8800.
WILDFIRE DASHBOARD
The wildfire dashboard provides up-to-date wildfire information at the click of a button. This interactive tool displays important statistics on the number of active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, sizes, locations, suspected causes and more.
The dashboard builds on the former wildfire status map by displaying the most frequently accessed information in one convenient location.
