Calgary Forest Area Wildfire Update - October 20, 2022

ACTIVE WILDFIRE IN CFA

Crews are currently responding to and actioning an active wildfire in the Panther area. Albertans are asked to avoid the area as crews and helicopters are working. The wildfire is currently classified as out of control and estimated at 500 hectares. Alberta Wildfire is working in conjunction with Parks Canada to control this wildfire. There are currently 2 helicopters, a 4-person Parks Canada crew, a 4-person Alberta Wildfire crew and 1 Incident Commander/Assessor from Alberta Wildfire. Additional resources are currently being mobilized and will be en-route to the site as appropriate.

A FIRE ADVISORY remains in effect for the Calgary Forest Area. Fire permits are only being issued on a case-by-case basis.

The wildfire dashboard provides up-to-date wildfire information at the click of a button. This interactive tool displays important statistics on the number of active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta, sizes, locations, suspected causes and more.

The dashboard builds on the former wildfire status map by displaying the most frequently accessed information in one convenient location.
