ACTIVE WILDFIRE IN CFA NOW BEING HELD
The wildfire located near Kent Ridge in Kananaskis Country (CWF-167) is now classified as BEING HELD. This means that although there will still be fire activity, the wildfire is not expected to grow beyond pre determined boundaries given the resources on site and the anticipated weather. It is estimated at approximately 2 hectares. There is no immediate threat to infrastructure in the area. Albertans are asked to continue to avoid the area as crews and helicopters will continue working. There are currently 12 wildland firefighters and 4 helicopters on site.
The cause of this wildfire remains UNDER INVESTIGATION.
A FIRE ADVISORY remains in effect for the Calgary Forest Area. Fire permits are only being issued on a case-by-case basis.
VERY DRY CONDITIONS
As the wildfire in Kananaskis has indicated, conditions are very dry and can support wildfire ignition and sustained burning. Please be extra vigilant when out in our forested areas in the coming days and weeks. The wildfire danger will remain elevated until we receive regular rain or until the snow falls.
