The overall wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) has increased to MODERATE with some pockets of HIGH.  A break in precipitation along with some warmer, windy days has helped to drive up the overall wildfire danger. Although the forecast is calling for the possibility of some light precipitation in the short term, conditions look mostly stable through the coming week which will lead to a continual climb in the wildfire danger.

ACTIVE WILDFIRE IN THE CFA

CWF-037 was detected last night near the Ghost River off of the TransAlta road and is currently being actioned. It is classified as Out Of Control at 4 hectares. Current resources responding include 25 wildland firefighters with two helicopters.

Smoke from this wildfire is visible from nearby communities, but this wildfire is not threatening any communities or critical infrastructure at this time. It is primarily burning in the finer fuels such as slash and cured grass.

The cause of CWF-037 is under investigation.

FIRE PERMITS

Request your fire permit online.  Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Fire permits help us to track what is burning on the landscape. If you're burning without a fire permit or outside fire permit conditions, your fire is considered a wildfire. By getting a permit before burning, you help keep our firefighters free to fight real wildfires instead of responding to the smoke in your backyard.

To request a fire permit online, visit our website. Please note that you can still request your permit from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800.
