The overall wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains LOW. Precipitation has continued over the week suppressing the wildfire danger. It has also helped to speed along green-up across the area. The forecast is calling for a continuation of unsettled conditions through the weekend with the possibility of warm conditions next week.

LONG WEEKEND WRAP UP

While the majority of users on public land were respectful this long weekend, we still encountered a few issues. Wildland firefighters and patrol staff located several unattended campfires over the weekend and were required to extinguish over 25 abandoned campfires left burning.

Thank you to those individuals who kept their campfires attended at all times and fully extinguished them before leaving.

STAYING SHARP

The CFA has been sending many resources north to assist on wildfires burning in central and northern Alberta. Wildland firefighters remaining here in the CFA are taking this opportunity to keep their skills sharp, even in the rain. These firefighters are working on hydrant training, engine drafting and pump troubleshooting.

FIRE PERMITS

Request your fire permit online.  Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Fire permits help us to track what is burning on the landscape. If you're burning without a fire permit or outside fire permit conditions, your fire is considered a wildfire. By getting a permit before burning, you help keep our firefighters free to fight real wildfires instead of responding to the smoke in your backyard.

To request a fire permit online, visit our website. Please note that you can still request your permit from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800.
