The wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains MODERATE. Colder temperatures and light, but widespread, snow allowed for a brief downtrend in wildfire danger.

Warm conditions are forecast for the coming week, which will again drive up the risk. With green-up still many weeks away, the risk in areas of exposed dry grass will persist, and be of particular concern on warm windy days.

WILDFIRES IN THE CFA

CWF-008 is now EXTINGUISHED at 16.67 hectares.

CWF-009 is now EXTINGUISHED at 6.5 hectares.

CWF-010 is now EXTINGUISHED at 2.0 hectares.

Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 10 wildfires which have burned 26.34 hectares.

FIRE SEASON PREPARATIONS

Preparations for the 2025 wildfire season across the CFA are well underway. In the coming weeks, additional seasonal wildland firefighters will be fitness testing and onboarding. Soon after, facilities will be opening to support firefighting operations and more specialized positions will commence.

FIRE PERMITS REQUIRED

Please do your part to help prevent human caused wildfires by using caution in forested areas.

Fire permits are now required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Fire permits help us to track what is burning on the landscape. If you're burning without a fire permit or outside fire permit conditions, your fire is considered a wildfire. By getting a permit you help keep our firefighters free to fight real wildfires instead of responding to the smoke from your brush piles. Fire permits are free and can be requested from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800 or online. To request a fire permit online, visit our fire permit webpage

FirePermitOnline

If you have any active burning still underway and have not received a fire permit, please contact us as soon as possible.
