Although the average wildfire danger across the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains MODERATE there are now many areas of HIGH to VERY HIGH, particularly in the central regions of the forest area. A lack of precipitation in these areas has led to very dry surface fuels, such as grass, which can easily ignite and sustain a fast moving wildfire. The forecast is calling for more warm and dry conditions over the week with a very low likelihood of precipitation.

WILDFIRES IN THE CFA

Since January 1, the CFA has responded to 44 wildfires which have burned 11.95 hectares.

Crews from the CFA were called in to assist with an out of control wildfire in Rocky View County on the evening of June 6. 13 wildland firefighters with two helicopters responded to a wildfire burning near Springbank. 22 wildland firefighters returned to the site of CCU-002 today to continue to assist with suppression efforts. Rocky View County has now classified this wildfire as Under Control.
