The average wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) has climbed to MODERATE. There are many pockets of HIGH to VERY HIGH danger scattered throughout the CFA. The current short term wildfire danger is being dictated by where the thunderstorms are developing as we are not seeing widespread, organized precipitation.

Although the Fire Restriction that had been in place for several weeks has been lifted, please continue to check www.albertafirebans.ca to see whether whether any partner jurisdictions have restrictions or bans in place. Please remember that fireworks and exploding targets are PROHIBITED in the Calgary Forest Area.
CALGARY FOREST AREA WILDFIRES TO DATE
The CFA has responded to 23 wildfires this season which have burned 4.51 hectares. They have all been extinguished.
FIRE PERMITS
You can request your fire permit online or by phone. Fire permits are required for any burning, except campfires, in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta. Fire permits help us to track what is burning on the landscape. If you're burning without a fire permit or outside fire permit conditions, your fire is considered a wildfire.
To request a fire permit online, visit the portal. You will need a MyAlberta Digital ID to access the portal. Please note that you can still request your permit from the Calgary Forest Area main office by calling 403-297-8800.
PROVINCIAL WILDFIRE UPDATE (AS OF 10:00 a.m.)
Since January 1, 2023, there have been 701 wildfires recorded in the Forest Protection Area of Alberta that have burned 1,442,674.11 hectares.
There are currently 84 active wildfires in the Forest Protection Area. 10 of the wildfires are classified as out of control, 26 are being held and 48 are under control. For the latest information about wildfires: www.alberta.ca/wildfire-status.
